Here is my wine review spot.
I have had many expensive wines during my time as a wine consultant, but I currently drink some cheap ones as a stay at home mom… let me review all kinds for you here!
10-01-09: I had Silvertop, Torranes. A white wine I picked up at the local liquor dive. I had never heard of the varietal- so curiosity played a part in the decision to purchase it. It was also cold and cheap. Bonus! Well, it was not even worth the $7 it cost. There was more quality in the reciept paper than the actual wine. It was so terrible I had to eat some cheddar cheese to choke it down. Honestly, box is better. I was bound and determined to drink it though, since I was not going back out and I certainly wasnt going to waste it. Thankfully I had Josh’s help. Our poor palletes are still trying to recover. Scale of 1-10? Score: -8
14 Hands Cabernet 2006 We bought this in St. Augustine. It was amazing. I have seen it on menus and never tried it, but I would so much recommend it! Not heavy on the tannins, very smooth and chocolately!
Scale of 1-10? Score: 8 –yummy! And under $20
Douglas Green Sauvignon Blanc –South African wine is usuallly pretty good. I love their Sauv Blancs and this one was superior to even France. Nice and green, grassy and tart, yet very well balanced. Perfect for fish, though I drank it by itself. We bought a few bottles of this and I wish I had a case sitting in my wine fridge right now. On a scale of 1-10? Score: 9
CRU-pinot noir California… I dont remember the region of this. I will work on keeping notes I swear. This was pretty good. Although I am picky as hell with Pinot Noir like Miles from Sideways, I liked this cheapie. it was about $20.99 or so. I didnt expect much, but I loved the label since it featured original artwork. The wine was good though and the grapes were actually from the vineyard… not sourced from France or from scattered sites in California, but from the actual land the vineyard was on… how rare nowadays. Scale of 1-10? Score: 7… + extra point for original art on the label.
