Battle of Knits

I'm just trying to keep it real… while knitting.

Gator colors

I have died and gone to heaven… I found non-superwash BFL yarn in varigated blue and orange. Not just any blue and orange… Gator blue and Gator orange! Now I am having a hard time deciding what I will make out of it. I dont know if I will have enough to make the hoodie I had in mind for Boo, so I may have to go with a vest!

I set up an appointment with a local photographer who is trying to build a portfolio for himself. All he is charging is film cost ($3-$5) and he will give me a cd and negitives. I am happy about this because I have wanted to get professional shots of Boo for his first birthday, but we dont really have the money for that. Also, I prefer the idea of having pictures done outside in nature, rather than in some white background studio with the same boring ass props that every kid has done. We are going to the Kanapaha Botanical Gardens. http://www.kanapaha.org/   I have been there once and it is lovely. I think the pictures will come out wonderful. Especially since Boo is walking every where now. I hope the weather is nice *crossing fingers* and I hope Boo is in a smiling happy mood! What are the chances that I will get both of those things on the same day???

Order In…

Sometimes I am just too indecisive. It took me nearly two weeks to order yarn. I finished a soaker for Kay today and moved on to a girlie tie-dye pair of shorties… while watching Heroes.

We got good news– we got the house! I will have more to clean… but it is worth it to enjoy and backyard! Now I need to focus on organizing so the move goes smoothly. All of this will cut into my crochet time!!!
Knitting class at Hanks starts on Saturday morning. Normally a morning class would make me cringe, but since Boo has been getting up around 7 or 8am, I am excited to get out of the house and learn to knit!!!

Here is whats up…

The humidity is coming back and I am not crazy about it… I love having the windows and doors open to let the air in.  There always comes a point where the breeze just stops and the air gets thick and humid here in Florida. I envy those on the coast who get the sea breeze! Although, being on the coast for hurricane season would make me a bit nervous.

I was searching around on Etsy and I found a shop (Epicurus) who custom dyes merino and BFL yarns. They do not seem too expensive either. I think I will order a skein or two to check it out. I bought a skirty pattern last night too. I am excited to get it started. I need another skein of applewood malabrigo and I will get started on that.
Boo has been walking everywhere! I cannot get over it. He now walks from the living room all the way into the play room without falling. I love seeing his confidence as he toddles around.

The grandparents found Boo a hot rod for his birthday. He loves this thing! He is a little small still to climb in and out himself, but he loves to be pushed around in it and when he’s not in it, he pushes it around! Too cute!!!

The flashy 4/20 shorties

Malabrigo, selection privada A, 100% Merino wool from Uruguay, Peru

These came together very fast! I started them late on April 19th after the baby was asleep and I finished on the morning of the 21st. So I dubbed these the “Flashy 4/20 shorties”. Finished just in time for earth day! I ran a bit low and had to stitch a bit of the crotch with another type of yarn. Since it is stitched on the inside, no one will see it. I didnt have enough for a drawstring either, so I figure I should buy a trim color to match and finish the drawstring and maybe some trimmming on the legs. I also washed and lanolized all the wool in the house yesterday and got R.’s ready to mail, as soon as they dry! I just love wool! I am fully addicted and I cant wait until I work the bugs out of these patterns so I can sell them to other moms who love wool.

Whats not to love? The absorbancy cannot be beat! The wash routine is so simple and they are so adorable!

Despite the tragedy in Italy, this 98 year old woman kept her spirits up and while she was trapped she just kept knitting! Good for her!

Talk about inspiration! :)

So yesterday I put the $$ down on my knitting classes. I start May 2nd at Hanks Yarn & Fiber. I was happy to see on the sign up list that there are at least 3-4 people already in the class. I am happy to know I will be learning a new craft and meeting new people. Each class is 3 hours… I hope Josh will step up and feed the baby as he should so that I dont get any phone calls.

cry it out?

The Boo has not been easy to get to sleep lately. Very rebellious… he just wont sit and rock, wont lay down… cries, screams… you name it. So yesterday I was at my wits end and I plopped him into the crib and jumped into the shower. After a 5 min shower– I get out and before I was even dried off and dressed he was fast asleep! He slept for 2 hours and woke up in a great mood! I never saw myself doing it, but it worked. In fact, it worked so well that I did again last night and it only took 4 mins!

Josh’s parents are visiting tonight, from New York. I am excited for them to see how big the baby has gotten since their last visit. He is now so tall, trying to walk, and very mischevious!

12 month checkup!

The 12 month checkup went well for Boo. The ped seem to think I should wean him and get him drinking cow’s milk. I told her, fat chance, since I dont even drink cows milk, plus my son is a human, not a cow.

He grew 5-6 inches since February! 30.7 inches tall and 20 lbs 9 oz.

I am cruising away on “R.’s” shorties and they are coming along well. Combining the two patterns seems to be working and I will publish her feedback too.

I got two Mutts in the mail and they are so cute! I cant wait to use them!

The weather has been dreary and depressing again today. I miss my Florida sunshine! We need the rain so badly so I should not complain, but wow has it been dark!

I have been following the Caylee Anthony murder case from day one and I was happy to hear they are bringing back the death penalty for Casey. I am also very depressed to hear that Sandra Cantu, the girl murdered in California may have been molested and murdered by her Sunday school teacher!!! What a sick and twisted woman. This world is seriously going to hell in a handbasket and fast!

Domain name– check!

Okay, got my domain name! www.battleofknits.com
is now officially mine. I love my tech-savvy man! Now I just have to keep busy crocheting away, while the website comes together. The first tester soaker has become my favorite cover… I am currently working on testers #2 & #3. I hope to finish them by time the in-laws get here which I am guessing will be by this coming Thursday.

I desperately want to make some newborn size footed longies. Something about making small diaper covers just appeals to me… is it the cuteness? is it my longing for another bun in the oven??? Who knows. I start knitting classes on May 2. I will be glad to have some new pattern available! So I have to set a tenative launching date for the store. I am choosing my birthday… 07-28-2009.
