My Favorite Recipe!
Okay I was surfing around reading various blogs and I found this one with a recipe share! It sounded like good fun to me, so here is my all time favorite recipe! There is a lot of room for tweaking, so feel free to play with it and make it your own. I dont really like measurements, especially with casseroles, but I will do my best for you. My mother made this when I was a kid and I still love it today!
More Than Just Green Bean Casserole!
1 lb of fresh green beans, cleaned and snapped into 2 inch pieces, then steamed.
A bag of tater-tots or crowns, baked using pkg directions.
One can cream of mushroom soup
1/2 lb cooked/drained ground beef or turkey
1 Pkg of mushrooms, sliced and sauteed (toss them in with your meat)
Milk
1 can French Fried Onions
Now, your tater tots are baked, your meat and mushrooms are sauteed and your green beans are steamed! So heat your oven to 350 degrees. Take your casserole pan (13×9) and line the bottom with tater tots. In the pan you have your meat and mushrooms sitting in, add your can of soup, and pour in a half can of milk. Stir. Spoon half of this mixture onto the taters. Then layer in your green beans and then the rest of the soup mixture on top. Sprinkle the whole can of French Fried onions on top and bake for about 15-20 minutes, just to heat it all back up. Enjoy!
Want to make this gluten free? You will have to make your cream of mushroom soup from scratch and omit the french fried onions… Cheese is a good substitute, I have used sharp cheddar many times after forgetting to grab the FF onions at the store!
I have made so many different versions of this, the possiblities are endless. You can even go easy and used canned green beans and mushrooms if you are in a rush. We serve it as a a main course, but it can be a side too. Personally I love the left-overs, it is one of those meals that tastes even better the next day… if there is anything left!
ENJOY!
